Start by telling us what happened and uploading your documents. We check for conflicts, then reply with what we can do and the fee.

Start by telling us what happened

Before you start, gather what you have. Useful documents include the receipt or invoice, the contract or quote, any warranty, photos or videos of the problem, and your emails or messages with the business or customer. A report from a mechanic, builder or engineer helps if you have one, but you do not need one to start.

Note the main dates in order: when you bought or signed, when the problem appeared, and when you complained. Then say what you want: a repair, a replacement, a refund, compensation, or a reply to a customer’s claim. If you are not sure, start anyway. We tell you what the law allows and what we would do next. Your enquiry is handled by Professional Edge Lawyers, our law practice in Frankston.

What happens next

  1. Send us the details. The online form takes about ten minutes. Upload what you have: receipts, the contract, photos, emails, any report.
  2. We review and write. We tell you how strong your position is. If it is worth pursuing, we send a letter setting out the facts, the law and what must be done by a set date. Within three business days of receiving your instructions, documents and payment.
  3. We tell you what came back. A remedy, an offer, a denial or silence: we explain what it means and what each next step would cost.

The business, dealer, builder or customer. We need this to check that we have not acted for them.

The price paid or the amount claimed.

For example a VCAT hearing date, a cooling-off period or a letter with a date.

Receipts, the contract, photos, emails, reports. PDF, Word, JPG or PNG. Up to 10 files, 10 MB each.

Sending this form does not make us your lawyers. We confirm in writing before we act, after a conflict check. See the privacy policy.

We act for consumers and for businesses, but never for both sides of the same dispute. Before we start, we check that we have not acted for the other party.
